Onshape

I love the ease of use of Onshape, its free to use and the objects are public by default, sounds great for a maker with an open source mindset. These are some of the short-cuts and notes I use - which I keep forgetting, hence this post 🙃

I find the print tolerence to be about 0.3mm betweem my design and the actual print on my K1C with mostly default settings.

Shortcuts

  • F zoom to fit
  • N normal view, rotates to it
  • P toggle planes
  • Q construction
  • I constraint
  • D dimension
  • U use tool

New plane at angle

  • New plane -> Line angle -> select line -> set angle, eg 45 degrees

Create second sketch
You add on by replicating a piece of geometry (thats just a part of the object you are build on), this is the starting point

  • select sketch -> select a face -> press U for use tool & select geometry to trace to the sketch -> now draw on that

Download STL

  • parts -> export -> STL -> fine resolution -> units in MM

Quick 3D Print

  • useful when checking hole spacing -> Shift-E (extrude) -> 0.6mm is 3 layers
